Programmatic Network Administrator (PNA) is an application extension tothe Distributed Systems Management (DSM) architecture used on theGuardian platform provided by Tandem Computers. It provides automatedcontrol over the operations of Tandem and user subsystems. Automation isintelligent, using expert systems techniques in the form of reactionrules to complex event situations. The rules base is customized using ahigh-level language which is compiled for efficient processing.PNA significantly reduces overhead of operations departments bymonitoring repetitive event handling, allowing centralized operationsdepartments to concentrate on more difficult situations. The level ofservice provided makes "lights out" operation of remote systems apractical proposition for implementing control routines for complexsituations.
